JCR lives on as Russell, the 1906 Hunslet built locomotive, originally ordered for the Portmadoc, Beddgelert and South Snowdon Railway. Shown here in the 1990s at Porthmadog with the late and much missed Cliff Jones driving. Russell is currently undergoing a very major overhaul at the works of the Welsh Highland Railway Ltd

JCR and his property interests

At one time JCR owned The Duke of York public house, Boxalls Lane, Aldershot. This must have been in the 1900s as he was living at Longdene, Haslemere, at the time.

Towards the latter part of Russell's life he spent a lot of his time in Scotland at his house at Creag Mhor, Onich, which is now a hotel. He was a member of the Royal Highland Yacht Club and had a steam yacht with the rather prosaic name of "Madge". The picture shows Russell with Blackie a mongrel who features in several photographs with JCR

Russell as expert on family law

Russell was the editor with Robert Bruce Russell, one of his brothers, of several editions of a classic of family law "The Rights and Liabilities of Husband And Wife" originally written by John Fraser Macqueen (1803-1881).
